Profiles of the Writers

Jasbir Singh was born in 1946 in Hoshiarpur, Punjab (India). After completing standard 10th, he acquired professional technical education from the Industrial Training Institute. Presently, he is working as Charge-Hand with Alam Steel Industries, Kuwait. He is well versed with Punjabi, Hindi, English, Urdu & Arabic but writes mainly in his mother tongue Punjabi and sometime in Hindi. Six books of his poems have been published so far. One of them has been translated in to Urdu. He has opted Jasbir Singh Dhiman as his penname. Jasbir has been the General Secretary/President of Punjabi Cultural Society and Punjabi Adabi Sangat in Kuwait. He was honoured by several Cultural and Literary Organizations in Kuwait and in India on many occasions for his literary achievements.

Jasbir is the founder member of the Writers Forum. He remained as the Convener for many years and then remained General Secretary until 2003. Presently he is a member of Advisory Committee.

Manjeet Dhiman, his wife, is a housewife. Gurpreet Singh, an Electronics Engineer, is working in India. Navjot Singh, his younger son, is doing his own business in India. 

Nuruddin Abdul Rehman Parkar was born in 1942 in Bankot of Ratnagiri district in india. He is known by his pen name Noor Parkar in the literary circle of Kuwait and outside. He completed his Master of Arts in Urdu and Persian from Bombay University, Bombay, India. He works with Kuwait Airways as Senior Store Officer. 

Although he is well versed with Persian, Marathi, English, Hindi and Kokni, he has been writing only in Urdu for decades. He is the pioneer translator from Marathi to Urdu [2 Books-'Khali Pinjrey Ki Hansi' & 'Sabzey Begana']. Noor is a very versatile writer. He has written poems [2 books-'Maujey Shafak Maujey Gubar' & 'Shafak Ka Ek Aur Rang', short stories [2 books-'Rupaiy Ki Maut' & 'Dosra Boru Khan', novels, plays [1 Book - 'Saba Awara'] and weekly columns ['Shair benighay Shair' continuously for last five years in Kuwait Times]. He has acclaimed two very prestigious literary awards from UP Sahitya Academy and Maharastra Academy. Noor is a founder member of Writers Forum, Kuwait. He had been the President of Writers Forum, Kuwait since its inception till 2003.

Noor is blessed with three children. Arifa, daughter, is married and is settled in Kuwait. Adil, elder son, is doing his MBA in United Kingdom. Atif, younger son, is working in Kuwait.

Umesh Sharma was born in 1948 in a small village of Buland Shahr district in India. After completing his Engineering degree B.E.(mech.) in 1970 from University of Roorkee, India, he worked for 10 years in India and came to Kuwait in 1980. Umesh completed his masters M.S. (Thermal) in 1997 from Kuwait University. Presently, he is working with Jassim Qabazard Engineering Consultants as the Engineering Manager.

Umesh Sharma is a very versatile and multi facet personality. He has been and continues to be a sportsman, stage artist, socially and culturally very active person. He has acted in number of plays (Hindi & English). Umesh Sharma has been the President of UPKAR (a cultural organization -Uttar Pradesh Kalatmak Rangmanch) in Kuwait for continuously three years from 1995to 1998. He is the General Secretary of Association of Indian Professionals in Kuwait. Over and above, he is a 'Hindustani' Poet. His first anthology (collection of poems) 'YE ASHIYAN' was published in 1999. 

Formation of Writers Forum took place at the residence of Umesh Sharma on November 03, 1995. Presently, Umesh Sharma is the General Secretary of the Writers Forum, Kuwait.

Manju Sharma, his wife, works for Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India as Undersecretary. Ashish Sharma, his son works as an accountant with Inchcape Shipping Services, Dubai. Anupam Sharma, his daughter is studying Veterinary Science from University of Sydney Australia. 

Lancy Pinto Nayak was born in 1955 in a small village Kinnigoli (Manglore Tq) India. He completed his diploma course in Electrical Engineering. Presently, he is working with Heart Kuwait Co General Trading and Cont. Pinto started writing in Konkani in 1972. Although he is well versed with Hindi, English and Konkani but he writes only in his mother tongue Konkani. He is basically a novelist but has written many dramas (31numbers), short stories (200), novels (10), plays and poems (more than 100). His many novels and plays have acclaimed various literary awards of high repute. Pinto is blessed with the acumen to direct his plays too. He qualified 'Drama Directors Course' from National School of Drama RRC Banglore - India.

He is the founder member of Konkani associations in Saudi Arabia, Manglore and in Kuwait. He has dedicated his life in the service of Konkani language. He was awarded Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award & Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation Book Award for his literary services.

He is associated with the Writers Forum, Kuwait for a long time. Presently he is the President of this organization. 

Jacintha Pinto, his wife, has the artistic talents and runs a publication house named as 'Umed Publications' in Manglore, India. Dagny Ian Pinto, his son and Daphne Ruweena Pinto, his daughter are studying in India.

Mrs. Maimuna Ali Chougle was born in 1951 in Dabhil (Ratnagiri) India. She graduated in Arts (B.A.) from Bombay University. She has been writing articles, critics, essays on various issues. She has established herself as a renowned Urdu writer and is a highly respected person in the literary circle in Kuwait. She is well versed with many languages such as Urdu, Hindi, English, Arabic, Marathi, Persian etc. However, she writes in Urdu only. A collection of her 20 articles was published under the title "Kuch Zikr Kuch Fikr" which was well received by the literary circles in Kuwait. 

Maimuna is associated with the Writers Forum, Kuwait since its inception. She presently holds the position of Vice President.

Her husband, Ali Chougle, is a Banker. Her eldest daughter, Rubeena Chougle, is a doctor and is working in U.K. Her son, Nadeem Chougle, is married and is working in Kuwait. Her younger daughter, Qurratulain Chougle, has completed her MBBS and is doing her MD in UK. 

Mrs. Shahjahan Jafri was born in 1963 in Mumbai (India). She completed her M.A. from Bombay University with Gold Medal. She has worked as an Announcer/Anchor with Bombay Doordarshan and Compiler & Announcer with Radio Kuwait for number of years. Presently, she is working as a teacher. Shahjahan is well versed with English, Urdu, Hindi, Persian, Marathi, Gujrati but prefers Urdu to write her poetry. She has opted her pen name as 'Hijab'. She is well known for her poetry in the literary circle of Kuwait. Shahjahan is an established Compere/Anchor/Conductor of Urdu Poetry sessions / Mushairas.

Shahjahan has been associated with the Writers Forum, Kuwait for a long time. Presently, she is the Joint Secretary of Writers Forum.

Another side of Shahjahan's personality is that she is a good actress and has acted number of plays and films.

Shahjahan is blessed with three children. Alia, her elder daughter: Hisham, her son; and Reema, her younger daughter. All the three children are studying in Kuwait.

Maithiyazhagan was born in 1959 in Mangattuppatti in Sivagagai district of Tamil Nadu (India). He completed his SSLC and started working. Presently he is working as an Office Assistant with Al-Marzook United Commercial Co. in Kuwait. He is well versed with Tamil, English and Hindi. However, he writes in Tamil language only with the penname 'Mathi'.

He is associated with Writers Forum, Kuwait for long time. Presently he holds the position of Finance Secretary.

Usha Rani, his wife, is a very active social worker. Inbathamil, his daughter and Mutthamil Mannan, his son, are studying.

Sayed Qamar Ahmad was born in 1958 in Muzaffarpur In India. After graduating with Bachelor of Science, he completed advanced professional courses such as Industrial Safety Management & Personal Management. Presently, he is working with KPIOSC, Kuwait as Quality Control Officer. He is well versed with English, Hindi and Urdu but he writes his poetry only in Urdu. He has taken up his pen name as Sayed Qamar Minto. His first anthology was published with the title 'Sehra Kee Goonj' . Minto is recognized as an established Urdu poet and is always a part of Urdu poetry Sessions in Kuwait.

Minto has been associated with the Writers Forum, Kuwait for a long time. He is now a member of the Executive committee of the Writers Forum, Kuwait.

Minto is blessed with three children Sameen (daughter), Wajahat (son), Adeeb (son).

Valerian Quadras, with a pen name Valley Quadras Ajekar, was born in 1967 in Karkala Taluck in Karnataka State, India. He graduated in Computer Applications followed by Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications. He works as IT Project Manager with M.H. Alshaya Co. WLL. Kuwait. Although he is well versed with Konkani, Kannada, English, Hindi, Thulu, he prefers to write in Konkani, English and Kannada. He has written over 100 poems in Konakani and English, over 150 short stories in Konkani and Kannada, 6 novels, 4 plays, 20 articles and many more. 

Valley has worked as Editor/sub-editor/editorial board members for various magazines for number of years. His three short stories, two poems and one novel won regional literary awards. He has edited and published 14 books sofar in konkani out of which 6 are of his short stories,  poetries and a novel.

He has been associated with the Writers Forum, Kuwait for a long time. Presently he is the member of Executive Committee. He had been very active to create the webpage for Writers Forum http://www.writersforum.itgo.com 

Benita Elfrida Quadras, his wife, has worked for NGOs for number of years. She is a born social worker.
